New Zealand’s fuel supply remains stable despite increased risks to international energy routes, according to Z Energy. The chief executive of the company, Lindis Jones, emphasized that while fuel continues to reach New Zealand, transportation delays and higher costs have emerged amid global tensions.
The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, alongside the activities of Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen, has placed additional pressure on fuel shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz and Saudi Arabian pipelines. This geopolitical instability has heightened the vulnerabilities in New Zealand’s fuel supply chain.
Jones noted that the safety margins for supply have narrowed as fuel inventories decline and some refineries postpone maintenance to sustain production levels. This situation has diminished the market’s capacity to handle further disruptions without significant impact.
Looking forward, Jones cautioned that there is little sign of immediate fuel price relief. The persistent uncertainty in global energy markets is expected to maintain elevated prices, reflecting the ongoing challenges in securing stable and cost-effective fuel supplies.
