New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has confirmed that the country’s next general election will be held on November 7, 2026. The announcement was made during the National Party’s first caucus meeting of the year in Christchurch.
Luxon said voters would face an important choice in what he described as a volatile global environment, urging them to consider the type of government they want for the future. He highlighted the National Party’s achievements over the past two years and said more work lies ahead.
According to the prime minister, a National-led government would continue to focus on affordable housing, infrastructure development, and community growth. He also expressed confidence in National’s ability to work constructively with coalition partners, including New Zealand First and ACT.
Luxon said economic management remains a key priority, stressing the government’s commitment to stability and recovery. He added that National aims to maximise its party vote as preparations for the 2026 election gather pace.
