In a decisive performance, Australia triumphed over England by five wickets in their Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match in Cardiff. This victory was largely attributed to Ellyse Perry’s outstanding half-century. Chasing a target of 158, Australia comfortably reached 158 for five with 10 balls to spare, showcasing their preparedness ahead of the tournament.

Perry spearheaded the successful chase with a brilliant 64 runs off just 44 balls, including nine boundaries. Her innings were well-supported by opener Beth Mooney, who laid a strong foundation with 43 runs from 26 deliveries, ensuring Australia maintained the necessary run rate throughout their innings.

Earlier in the match, England managed to post a total of 157 for six after a shaky start, having been reduced to 19 for three. Alice Capsey was the top scorer for England with 45 runs, while Freya Kemp contributed significantly with a swift 41 off 27 balls. Their efforts were crucial in reviving England’s innings following early difficulties.

England’s captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, made her return from injury but was dismissed for just three runs. Despite a promising recovery from the middle order, England’s bowlers could not contain Australia’s batters. Additionally, England’s fielding woes, including several dropped catches, allowed Australia to capitalize and secure a comfortable victory.

This warm-up match offered both teams valuable experience as they prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup. England will continue their warm-up schedule in hopes of ironing out these issues before the tournament officially kicks off.
