Spotify is set to implement new strategies aimed at identifying and limiting the visibility of AI-generated artists on its platform. Beginning in September, artist profiles and track listings that are AI-created will be marked with an “AI persona” label. This initiative seeks to help users distinguish between authentic musicians and artificial identities, safeguarding real artists from losing exposure to content generated by artificial intelligence.
The streaming service announced that these AI personas will by default be excluded from personalized recommendations, allowing listeners to focus on genuine performers. Spotify will not only permit artists to voluntarily disclose if their identities are AI-generated but also plans to employ human reviewers and AI-driven tools to detect any undisclosed AI personas.
This decision comes in response to the rapid increase in AI-generated music content. Spotify previously reported removing 75 million spam tracks over a year, showcasing the significant influx of artificial and low-quality music entering online platforms.
As generative AI becomes more prevalent in the music industry, Spotify emphasized the growing importance of transparency. The company noted that listeners are increasingly interested in knowing whether the creator behind a track is a human or an AI-generated persona.
